This is a step-by-step procedure for replacing the serpentine belt and tensioner pulley on a Ford Fusion 2013-2020 with a 2.5L engine.
How to Replace Ford Fusion Tensioner & Serpentine Belt
What you will need
- Ford Fusion tensioner pulley
- Ford Fusion serpentine belt
- Tire wrenchor breaker bar
- Floor Jack
- Jack stands
- Fastener remover or flat screwdriver
- 21mm, 14mm, 10mm sockets
Procedure
- Park the vehicle on a flat-level ground surface.
- Loosen the lug nuts of the front passenger wheel using a tire wrench or breaker bar.
- Jack up the vehicle’s front and support it with jack stands.
- Pull the wheel out of the vehicle.
- Remove the push clips and bolts on the fender liner. Use a fastener remover and a 10mm nut driver to remove the push clips and bolts.
- Pull the fender liner out to access the crankshaft and ac compressor belt.
- Twist the 21mm bolt on the crankshaft pulley and insert a thick paper on the crankshaft and belt.
- Kee the thick paper between the belt and pulley. Pull the belt out of the crankshaft and ac compressor as you manually turn the crankshaft clockwise.
- Open the hood. Pull the hood release under the dashboard and unlock the hood latch on the vehicle’s front. Then pull the hood up at set the hood strut to hold the hood. If you need help with this step, follow the procedures shown in the video.
Locate the tensioner pulley and serpentine belt on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the intake manifold of the vehicle.
Release the tension on the tensioner pulley by placing a wrench on the 14mm bolt on the pulley and pushing it towards the back of the car.

Once the tension is released, pull the serpentine belt out from the vehicle.
Remove the two 10mm bolts on the tensioner pulley using a 10mm socket wrench and turn it counterclockwise.
With those two bolts removed, you can pull the tensioner pulley out.
Line up the new/replacement tensioner pulley into the vehicle.
Reinstall the two 10mm bolts on the tensioner pulley and turn them clockwise to tighten.
Line up and hold the new serpentine belt into the pulleys below the tensioner pulley.
Twist the 14mm bolt on the tensioner pulley to release the tension and slide the serpentine belt on the tensioner pulley.
Install the belt on the crankshaft and ac compressor by turning the crankshaft while sliding the belt on the pulleys.
Reinstall the fender liner and its push clips/bolts.Reinstall the wheel. Torque the lug nuts to 100 Ft-Lbs (135 N·m).
